Founded in 1838 by the Wheaton brothers, the village was incorporated in 1890. The prairie homes of the Wheaton brothers still stand today. In addition, there are boutique shops in downtown Wheaton. Wheaton School District 200 comprises several elementary schools. Students either go on to Edison Middle School or Hubble Middle School then on to Wheaton North High School or Wheaton Warrenville South High School. The Wheaton Park District operates recreational facilities in 50 parks on more than 800 acres including the Rice Pool & Water Park and a community center. There are many recreational programs and a variety of tennis courts, soccer fields, picnic areas and baseball diamonds.
