VP, Director of Human Resources
Ellen Garippo is VP, Director of Human Resources for Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Chicago, a residential real estate firm with 24 offices throughout Chicagoland, its suburbs and New Buffalo, Michigan.
A seasoned executive, Ellen has extensive experience in change management in a corporate environment. She has the proven ability to streamline business operations and impact business growth by implementing efficiency and productivity improvements. She is a skilled communicator who works with Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices, BHHS Chicago’s parent company, and its team of 25 HR professionals throughout the nation to develop and implement HR policies, programs, compliance, and company-wide initiatives.
At the local level, Ellen offers guidance and coaching to employees and management. She ensures open lines of communication with the goal of putting the right people in the right places. She trains and manages performance appraisals, annual merit increases, goal setting and discretionary bonus programs. Ellen coordinates recruitment activities, applicant files, compensation and the selection process for open positions. She is responsible for creating, implementing and updating the employee on-board program that introduces new employees to the company policies and procedures. Ellen promotes companywide goals, safety programs including ergonomics, health and wellness programs, and an annual safety improvement plan. Additionally, she has extensive change management experience including companywide and department re-organizations, layoffs, mergers and acquisitions.
Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices conducts ongoing training for employees on a range of current event topics including cyber security and understanding unconscious bias to name a few - all with the goal of educating staff about important issues. Training concludes with a test and completion is required.
Ellen created an employee training program called the CXC Customer Experience Program that trained employees in the art of exemplary customer service.
Over the course of her career, Ellen has overseen five acquisitions and had the good fortune to work with highly talented leadership at local and national levels for her present company as well as its predecessors.
Ellen earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and Sociology from St. Norbert College and an HR certificate from DePaul University. She began her career at Koenig & Strey Realtors in 2000. Ellen started as a part time HR assistant and receptionist and worked her way up to Director of HR. In her free time, Ellen enjoys spending time with her family, anything outdoors, traveling, hiking and curling up on the couch with a great book.
